You have amazing content, you have are dedicated to making your blog successful, but no one is reading. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter if you are the world’s greatest author, people will skip right to that big red X on the top right corner if it’s not an easy blog to read. These five EASY & basic tips will help you start gathering the readers that you deserve.
1. Your eyes love the left.
Consider certain parts of your blog as real estate. And the left hand side is the prime place for your content.
Check out this article for more information on it:Â Eyes Top Left: Lessons from Eye Track III.
The space that gets the most attention on a blog is the left hand side. Thus, the reason you will commonly find logos & posting areas on the left on blogs that have been around longer.
Your blog is about what you write, not necessarily about what’s in the sidebar. So if you can, get that posting area on the left. If you want a 3 column blog, just add the third column to the right side.
Trust me! You will get more readers from this, because you have made your content easy to find.
2. Write on a white space.
Consider your blog to be like a book.
Do you read a book with black pages & white letters? Or even pink with white letters? No. That would be miserable because it is hard to read. Just like you wouldn’t give a book with black, purple, pink, orange, or any other color pages a second glance, it’s more than likely people aren’t going to give your blog a second glance either.
3. Use paragraphs.
Let me go back to the point I made about making your blog read like a book.
One important reason for paragraphs, is they allow you to make your post flow. It is extremely difficult to read a blog post where there is no definition to the content. It’s hard to read, to follow what the writer is trying to say. Paragraphs allow a post to ebb & flow & to get the message across in a clear manner.
I can think off the top of my head some blogs that have great content, but because there are no paragraphs I really, really struggle with comprehending what they have written.
4. Plz due a spll chck & edt ur pst. Bad grammr is hrd to read.
I know, I know, you have heard this a million times but, it’s just so simple & basic that you should be doing it with every post.
This simple step is the finishing touch to having a great post & when people come to your blog they will come back.
5. Can people subscribe to your blog?
Now that you have done the 4 steps to your blog above, give people an option to subscribe. Offer both a button so that people can subscribe into a reader like Google or Yahoo AND give people an option to subscribe straight to their inbox. Different people like to read their favorite blogs different ways, so be sure you have the different options!
