Someday…

09/08/2010 by Kate P. 14 Comments

Someday, I’m going to travel to Italy & celebrate mass in Vatican City. And I’m going to stand there and think, “My God, this is Amazing.”

St. Peters Basilica

Someday, I’m going to go to a cafe right next to the Eiffel Tower. And I’m going to sit there & think, “My God, this is Amazing.”

Someday, I’m going to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. And I’m going to stand there at the top & think, “My God, this is Amazing.”

Someday, I’m going to ride a camel in front of the Egyptian Pyramids. I’m going to look out at the desert and think, “My God, this is Amazing.”

Someday, I’m going to go to the Tower of London where all of the historically famous people I’m so geeked out about  trod (ie the Plantagenets, the Tudors, etc) and I will think, “My God, this is Amazing.”

Someday, I’m going to visit the “Secret Annex” where Anne Frank & her family hid from the Nazis. And I’m going to walk behind the famous bookcase that led to their hiding place and see where she lived and wrote her diary. And I’m going to think, “My God, this is Amazing.”

Someday, I’m going to see the Mona Lisa. And I, who is not a knowledgeable person in art, but can appreciate all things for their historical value (former history grad student here folks), will stand there and look at her funny smile and think, “My God, this is Amazing.”

Someday, I’m going to see the ruins at Machu Picchu in Peru. And I’m going to look at the ancient architecture, I’m going to wonder about the people who lived there, and I’m going to think, “My God, this is Amazing.”

But Today, I’m going to look out my backdoor into my yard and I’m going to see my little boy playing in his swing. And I’m going to see how he has gone from 7 lbs, to this big toddler who can walk, talk, run, wave, smile, hug, kiss, dance & feed himself. I’m going to stare at him in total wonder at the beautiful miracle that he is and I’m going to think, “My God, THIS is Amazing!”

I went to Rome, I stood in the Vatican and watched Pope John Paul II celebrate mass. I thought it was the most amazing sight! The joy, happiness, and sheer awe of the moment did not compare to motherhood. I love your post! Thank you!

Awesome post! God knows I want to do a LOT of these things and then some, but I am also completely happy and content in the here and now. Nothing beats watching my daughter grow – then maybe someday, we can do all those things together as a family!

Awesome post, Kate! I sure do miss travelling and eating and going and doing since the girls were born, but it's true that I have the most awesome, awe-inspiring, amazing adventures right in my own den. 🙂
