Back to Blogging Day 3 & 4

09/16/2010 by Kate P. 9 Comments

This is a super late post! Lboy & I BOTH had one of those days Tuesday where we felt fine when we woke up in the morning and then by late afternoon we were sooo sick! So I shut the comp off & headed to bed when Lboy went to bed. But I thought I would go ahead & combine days 3 & 4. PS This is a post that is supposed to be one of your favorites & Day 4 is about a woman who inspires you.
The Only Constant in Life is Change

Today I was at my grandparents’ house looking at old, black and white pictures of my grandmother’s parents, of my grandmother when she was a little girl and pictures of her when she was my age with little babies hugging her ankles. That’s when this thought/feeling ran over me like a freight train that LIFE just feels so much more real & fragile than it ever did (this has consistently run over me since becoming a mom.)

Here is this woman who once upon a time was a little, bitty baby, the youngest of 6 children, she played basketball in high school (I did too), went to college (the same one as me), married a handsome man from her university (like I did), and started raising a family (like I am.)
I saw generations of people in photos today & realized that life is moving, flowing, & changing. I read a letter that my great-grandmother wrote when my grandmother was two months old. I could imagine my great-grandmother writing this letter at 30 years of age (3 years from my age now) telling her mama all about her new baby, about the cold “the baby” had, how big “the baby” was, how she came up with “the baby’s” name, & how all the other kids loved having “the new baby.”

In February of 1927 my great-grandmother, was doing exactly what I do everyday–raising babies, writing, being married, missing her mama, making ends meet, & working hard to be a good mom/person/wife. It was neat to see the similarities mirrored from the past & the present in our lives.

Now, my grandmother who was once referred to as “the baby” by her mother is now cradling great- grandchildren. The only constant in life is the constant change & evolution of time–it’s quite unbelievable.

Which leads me to Day 4: A Woman who Inspires You:

Today I was thinking about women who inspire me. The women who inspire me are the everyday women, my great-grandmother, my grandmother, my mom, my aunts, my MIL, my sisters, & my girlfriends (real world & blogosphere.) The women who cook supper, take care of the kids, clean the house, pack lunches, go to work, work in the home, take kids to and from school, basically the CEOs of families. They are the ones who inspire me, the ones who do everything and don’t get paid a million dollars to do it.

I am inspired by the EVERYDAY woman. I am inspired by YOU.

What a great post! It is true, history does repeat itself and while many things change, many things still remain the same.

I love your new post! I too am constantly amazed by the women who cook dinner every night, have a clean house, happy children, menu plans, balance the budget, and seem to do it with ease!

Seeing my grandmother with my babies is one of the best feelings I get from having children. They way she looks at them is like they can do no wrong, absolute love! It makes you forget about the destin they were rubbing all over there face that morning!

I agree with your women of inspiration! I love and respect my mom so much more now that I am a mom!

Hope you guys are feeling better, thats no fun when you are both out of commission!
