A Time I Escaped Punishment.

04/14/2011 by Kate P. 11 Comments

I was 4 years old. My little sister, Maryann, was 2.

Our mom had just bought us these really awesome kid scissors so we could cut out shapes from fun construction paper.

Only problem is….I wanted to cut Maryann’s Cabbage Patch Doll’s hair.

Maryann said no.

So I asked if I could cut her hair.

She said yes to that one.

I cut off all her beautiful, blonde hair from the tip of her bangs to the very middle of her head.

Then I ordered her to tell our parents that she cut her own hair.

She did what I said.

My dad got so mad!

Maryann was bald. My mom told every one she looked like Benjamin Franklin.

For years my parents always thought that she had done it to herself. I never told the truth until I was 8.

At that point it was a hysterical story & Maryann had hair again.

But, we still refer to her as good ole Ben every now & again.

Maryann & Me After about 6 Months of her hair growing in

Did you ever do something like this to a sibling? Or better yet (maybe worse) did you have something like this done to you?

4.) A time you covered your tracks and avoided punishment.

I’m the little sister (although, not YOUR little sister).

For the record: NOT FUNNY! Also not funny: big sister peeing on the floor & blaming it on little sister; big sister convincing little sister that oscar the grouch is little sister’s real dad; & big sister making little sister take a drag off of a FOUND cigarette & convincing little sister that she couldn’t tell mom because little sister was the one who smoked.

    Clearly, I have issues. 😉

OH WOW! I’m not sure I could’ve kept a secret like that that long. Or if I had had a baby sister she’d done what I said. LOL! Looks like the tradition of kids cutting their hair, someone/something else is long standing one.

Yes I did something similar (I really thought she needed a haircut!) and that’s how I know I will never be a hairdresser.

HAHAHAHA even as a little sister, I find this hilarious! My older sisters did some not-so-nice stuff to me as well… but now it makes for great stories!

I can’t BELIEVE you did that and managed to keep it a secret for so long! I used to do stuff like that to my sister…make her pretend that she had done something so that I didn’t get in trouble. And the fact that you guys called her Ben Franklin is HILARIOUS!!

LOVE the story! LOVE that you included a picture. But the thing I LOVE the most… that your sister was willing to let you cut her hair rather than her coveted cabbage patch doll’s hair! Now THAT is a classic 80s kid right there! 🙂

Kate. OMG. All those awesome parenting techniques you’ve been sharing w/ me that your mom had? This.is.why. I seriously am crying over here. From laughter or fear that this could be my future, I’m not sure. Either way, that picture is a crack up and you are the BEST!! (and you SO better be taking your sis out for a fried pickle and some wine!)
