FX Friday

04/02/2010 by Kate P. 6 Comments

Oh Geez…where do I begin?! Do I mention that I gained 15 lbs before I got pregnant in 2008? Do I mention that I lost all my babyweight within 4 weeks but I still had that dumb 15 lbs? Do I mention that I had a LOT of fun eating after the baby was born so I gained another 10 lbs? Which put me at 25 lbs over my “perfect” size?

In October of 2009, I decided that I could not keep eating like a big fat pig junk food–I actually spiraled into despair when I was at the doctor and the nurse asked me how much I weighed. My first mistake was that I didn’t lie. My second mistake was telling her, “If I weigh 162 pounds I’ll kill myself.” She has me step on the scale, and BOOM, I weighed 5 lbs over what my “I’ll kill myself weight” was. Can we say awkward moment?!!! The nurse looks at me, I know she’s trying to be nice, I’m about to cry, and she says, “Don’t worry honey, I’ll just lie & say you weigh 10 lbs less than you do.” Oh geez, thanks.

That’s when I quit eating at the local bakery 3 times a week a ton of calories. Fast forward to today & I’ve dropped 3 clothing sizes to a size 6, I weigh 143 lbs & I’m back at my preferred weight; the weight that makes me so happy I could sing, wear a bikini all day, etc. BUT….I’m not in shape like I want to be because I mostly relied on breastfeeding to burn all those extra calories. And guess what?……

Wolverine is about to be weaned! And I’m going to have to start working out! *Sob* *Tear* I’m not foreign to exercise. I’m pretty active even without doing the traditional going to the gym, hitting the weight floor routine. But I haven’t been regular with it, since this whole motherhood ran over me like a freight train thing. So….. here’s the challenge I’m giving myself:

On April 30, a church’s high school youth ministry is hosting a 5k Fun Run/Walk titled “The FX Run” (proceeds go towards their mission trip.) Starting today, I am going to start training for the next 28 days for this race–think it’s impossible? 🙂

My goals are simple:
1. Finish in under 30 minutes–I’m not trying to run like a professional here peeps.
2. Write a post every Friday about my progress:
*Like will I still be puking in week 2?
*Have I regained feeling in my legs?
*Do I hate my self for telling the e-world I’m going to do this & now I want to quit?!!!
3. Post pictures, describe routes I’ve discovered
4. Have fun & try to enjoy the process of getting back into cardio shape.

Are there goals you have set for yourself & accomplished? Are there goals you would like to set for yourself & accomplish them? Are there goals you set, but didn’t get to reach them, for whatever reason, and you want to start all over?

*Note: These can be related to weight, food, a craft or house project….basically anything you’ve wanted to do/have done/etc…I love to hear what other people are /were doing! It’s Inspirational!

I would sell all of my non-vital for life organs to be a size six again. Just saying.

Good for you for setting goals! I hope you meet with much success.

    Good Luck!!

I'm right there with you! I've lost all my baby weight, but mostly due to breastfeeding (although I do walk a lot). I am not in the shape I was in pre-baby and have to work out. I, too, am not a stranger to exercise. Nor am I stranger to not wanting to peel my booty off the couch.

My challenge is to cut out all the extra sugar and exercise!

Hi Kate. Thanks for your sweet comment on my Cottage By The Sea blog. Yes, I do have 5 kids and my second from the top is also a KATE. Best name ever! Kate's always seem to be the most amazing people. You will read a lot about my Kate if you read my archives sometime. Check any post labeled Kate! I've just begun to peruse your site and will continue in the morning. It looks great and your baby is positively edible. I love the way you wrote your Hello! I'm Kate section. Quick and witty, two of my favorite traits in a person. Oh and by the way, you can absolutely do the running thing. You'll love yourself after you complete that challenge! You're a mommy, you can do ANYTHING!
    Blessings
    I'll be back.
    Tia

Oh, Kate. I am breastfeeding and I still haven't lost all of the baby weight. I did buy the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD today. Still need the hand weights though. I also bought a bikini for extra motivation. Ha.

I am excited to read about The Challenge. Show em what you're made of!
