Honest confessions about motherhood…

03/24/2014 by Kate P. 16 Comments

1. You learn to function at a high level of sleep deprivation.

2. You will never, ever love someone the way you love your kids.

3. It can make life feel really stressful & blissful all at the same time.

4. Bedtime is my favorite time of the day.

5. Seeing my kids when they wake up is my favorite time of the day (they’re so cute & happy!)

6. I love & respect my husband more every day as we tackle this parenting gig together.

7. My daily decisions are always made on what is best for my family, even if it means sacrificing things I really want.

8. Motherhood is the hardest thing I’ll ever do. And when people tell me it’s also the most rewarding there are times I want to tell them they are liars! Then my kids do something absolutely adorable or something that makes me really proud. Then I totally get it.

9. It usually means my car is going to look bombed for the next 18 years along with my savings account.

10. Stepping on legos really is the worst feeling in the world, almost as bad as child labor. Almost.

What are you honest confessions about motherhood?

I don’t have any kids yet, but it’s amazing how many of those things translate over pretty well to Gradschool…. and the stepping on legos thing is the worst! Great post!

Sara, that’s so true! My little sister is in law school & she doesn’t have kids yet either but she says her friends who do have kids & who are in school say that having kids is what prepared them for the sleep deprivation that school requires.

Thanks for stopping by & leaving a comment! 🙂

I loathe bedtime… it’s so stressful trying to put my daughter down because she is not a good sleeper. BUT I love when she wakes up all sleepy and wants to cuddle.

I love the mornings when my kids crawl into bed with us & we watch cartoons. It’s one of the sweetest moments of the day! Sorry your kiddo doesn’t go down for bed easy, I know that’s hard!

Aren’t they so cute when they sleep??? I obsessively check on mine in the middle of the night too… might be one of the reasons I’m so sleep deprived! ha!

I totally agree with #1. (Well, I agree with all of them, but I seem to relate so well to that and there’s seems to be nothing I can do about it. lol) Great list!

Ha! There really is nothing we can do about it is there?! It is something that I’ve grown accustomed to, it was a major shock to my system when I first became a mom though. Didn’t think I would ever make it!

    All this is so true!

Bedtime is a fabulous time. And yes, stepping on Legos hurts. And Barbie shoes. I stepped on a Barbie shoe before and OUCH.

    1. Motherhood is a proud profession.

    2. I’m 57, raised five children, and my bones are tired.

    3. I will forever be their mother.

    4. I know what’s wrong with me. They say sleep deprivation causes
    brain damage.

    5. My children are all a little bit nonconformists and I love it.

    6. Dull women have immaculate homes. My house was topsy turvey but we had a blast feeding ducks, swimming, going to parks, libraries, museums, campgrounds, grandparent’s farm and dozens of other adventures.

    7. You never forget the pain of a midnight lego. Oh and now I have grandchildren who have legos.

    8. Motherhood was the hardest, most endearing thing I have ever done. Harder than law school.

    9. Giving birth to five children under the age of nine is not for sissies.

    10. Raising my children will forever be the loveliest time of my life.

I love bed time. Used to love nap time too but this week has brought upon the rude realization that way may be done with naps.
