"What did you do this weekend?" "Oh me, I went to the ER…."

04/19/2010 by Kate P. 8 Comments

Remember me writing about how we are surviving on Friday?

Well, Wboy was fine on Friday. In fact, I’d say he was absolutely in perfect health on Friday. Phatness came home on Friday evening, turned on a baseball game, & then we all got real wild & fell asleep at 6:30 pm (I for one fell asleep cause it’s a) baseball & b) I’d been doing battle with a sick baby all week…I promise I’m not THAT boring! ha jk I’m really that boring.)

At some point in the middle of the night Wolverine started running a fever & he got HOT! It was really stressing me out, tylenol wouldn’t knock the fever down, & then my thermometer broke & I couldn’t get a consistent read on what his temp was. We wake up on Saturday morning, he’s still lookin kinda ill, but like he’s feeling a lot better. His temp was down, so I thought we were heading towards getting better.

Sunday, I woke up because I was getting vomited on, AGAIN. Poor baby 🙁 He’s fever had spiked high & the Tylenol wasn’t getting it down, and then he turned purple & got all splotchy. That’s when I decided to take him to the walk-in clinic. The LPN just happened to be in the waiting room at the walk-in clinic, she took once look at Wolverine & sent us straight to the ER.

We got to the ER, signed in, & there we waited & waited & then waited some more. His fever was at 102 by the time we got there & they gave him Tylenol, & theirs worked. Hmmm…. So after 6 hours at the ER, they told us he had probably been a little dehydrated & that he’d be sick for another 3 days or so.  I basically paid (or will pay) a lot of money to have learned 1) Keep giving him pedialyte 2) They recommend that I give him Children’s Tylenol & Motrin not Infant’s (his pediatrician’s nurse had me giving him infant’s tylenol which was why his fever wouldn’t go down at home because the dosage was so small.)

We got home last night, my MIL was wonderful & picked up some stuff from the grocery store (and sat with me the whole time at the ER.) Wboy was up & down every 45 minutes last night, which was miserable for everyone involved. He’s asleep right now & I’m praying that for his sake he can get some good sleep & get rid of this virus that has my usually happy, laughing baby crying, feeling terrible, & grumpy.

I want to Thank Everyone for all of the uplifting comments on my post from Friday. I hope to get back to y’all as soon as I can, but alas I’m still Nurse Mama for the next few days.

Hope you all had a much less stressful weekend than we did here at the MM household! Feel free to tell me about all the fun things you did–I’d love to hear about them–and then I will live vicariously through you while my lil dude is still sick.

ER visits are never fun! Last time we went I got a huge lecture from a helpful nurse about how to make sure I give my baby the right dosage. It was very complicated. Hopefully, his little body gets rid of the virus soon!

hope he feels better quickly! don't you hate the er? they never have anything constructive to say – when i went they couldn't even tell me if the drug they were giving me would affect nursing. the er doc had to look it up in a book and still couldn't tell me. waste. of. time.
