You Know You’re a Mom When…

10/06/2010 by Kate P. 13 Comments

Your kid wakes up at 5 am & you want to die. He, amazingly enough, is actually happy & fine playing by himself so you put him the floor with a few toys. You make sure that the kitchen has all the baby gates up so he can get to the dangerous stuff under the sink. Then you grab your pillow & blanket & head to the couch. About 15 minutes later you realize that you fell asleep. And two minutes after that you realize that you left the door to your bedroom open. Thirty seconds after that you find your toddler in the middle of 4 toilet paper rolls, that are no longer rolled, & it looks like a bunch of wild teenagers pranked your bedroom. HUGE MESS! Was it worth the 15 min of dozing? I’m still not sure.

It’s fall weather outside. It’s a great time to take the kid outside. He has a blast! So you make sure you go for a walk every day.

You read a blog post about internet security about a mother who discovered her son’s pictures (along with lots of other little boys) in a creepy photo album belonging to a guy named Mike. The instant nausea is overwhelming, multiply it by 1000 if you’re a parent. SICK SICK SICK! Note to self: No longer putting up pics of the kiddo on my blog. No romanian freakzoid is going after my little boy! It’s enough to make me want to quit blogging-I’m still trying to figure out what to do.

You look forward to nap time  & bed time every day. You just can’t help looking forward to getting a break. But you love seeing the most precious smiles when they’ve woken up!

It’s nap time & you swear by the “Sleep when he sleeps” rule.

I confess to sleeping on the sofa when I was pregnant with Maddie. Kate was pretty trustworthy, though, and I relied on my mommy ears to wake me if necessary. πŸ™‚

HAHAHAHA it seems having a kid is similar to having a dog. I fall asleep for a few minutes, and they've taken the trash out of the garbage. *sigh*

Yeah, that blog post really got unnerved me. πŸ™ I also swear by the 'sleep when the baby sleeps' rule! It's the only way I can get through the day and keep my sanity intact. LOL!

I wish I could sleep a few more minute while my daughter played. I am her toy so there is no extra sleep with her.

That post that you liked to really scares me.

""Sleep when he sleeps" rule. "

I break that rule way too often. Or I'll do something while they begin to nap but then get tired. And when I finally fall asleep? They get up.

And totally agree about the sickos in the world.

I can relate to everything on your list!
When I was about 8 months pregnant one day Lulu got up WAY too early. I fell asleep on my rocker recliner and she helped herself to some chips that somehow spread through the whole apartment. I decided it was worth the 15 extra minutes of sleep.
When I read that link yesterday I almost decided to quit blogging all together. I don't post pictures but my sister-in-law has posted pictures of my children. I am calling her today and asking her not to do that again.

I've been thinking of not posting pictures of the kids on the blog for a while now… it breaks my heart to have to do it, but I think it's just about time πŸ™

at least he only got to the toilet paper πŸ™‚ haha. I'd still say the 15 minutes was worth it though. I hadn't heard of that. It is scary how crazy and weird some people are. It just doesn't make sense.

Oh I have had a few days where I have gated stuff off and even climbed back into bed (one level house)….amazing! Made a huge mess, toys only, but my sanity was in tact!

I love this because it is SO TRUE!! These little trade-offs we make…that are so often not worth it.

And about the pictures and the creepy guy…that gives me the willies. I try not to post pictures of the boy where you can see his face – and when I do I still make them private on flickr…but still its scary.

Whats up with the toilet paper lately. My son is into it too and its driving me nuts. I too am tired and had a few days this week where I could have kissed the bed when I got into it.
