Call Me Pioneer Woman…

02/15/2011 by Kate P. 15 Comments

And no I don’t mean like the super famous blogger who is having/had a movie made after her (I wish!)

You can call me Pioneer Woman because my friggin’ dishwasher went out last weekend.

Reasons why I’m NOT going to have it fixed:

1. It’s the best thing that ever happened to our family’s quality time. Every evening Todd & I stand at the sink together & wash the dishes. We laugh, we talk, & we laugh & we talk…we fall in love all over again.

2. It has forced me to be on top of getting my dishes done–they NEVER pile up anymore. My kitchen literally sparkles on a regular basis these days.

3. My hands smell of a beautiful Palmolive scent. It’s better than roses for reals y’alls. And my hands are so soft, I may never need a spa manicure by Madge ever again!

4. It helps me feel productive! I feel as though I’m actually accomplishing something with my day.

And last but not least….

5. Think of all the MONEY I’m saving on my electric bill by not having to run that blasted thing! And it was so noisy too…

Oh heck! Who am I kidding! All that is a bunch of rationalizing BS!

….because….

1. I’d rather watch paint dry with Todd than do the dishes–because frankly housework blows.

2. Ha! Like I’m really staying on top of the dishes.

3. My hands are so cracked & dry from using that blasted dish soap I’ve almost gone through a whole bottle of lotion!

4. I was already productive…hello…I blog! We bloggers get stuff done every day…like…socializing on twitter….er….I mean feeding our children.

5. I’m pretty sure I am single handedly using up the world’s freshwater supply by hand washing all my dishes.

So wish me luck in my Pioneer Woman Adventuring ways until the repair guy gets here…I’m gonna need it!

HAHAHA I was all excited because I thought you'd discovered the joys of handwashing. In Mexico most people don't use dishwashers, so I've been handwashing my dishes for years! I actually prefer it to the dishwasher.

I think for a family with kids a dishwasher would be easier… but for just 2 of us it would be more of a PITA. It would take me a week to fill it hahaha

Pahaha!! I abhor washing dishes down to the very depths of my soul. I would rather sit in the dirt and watch the wind blow than stick my hand in a sink to do dishes. No thank you. Hope you get it fixed soon!! PS-Until you do, have you tried Dove's dish soap? It's a little more pricey but it's definitely better for your hands.

I was reading this, going, "WHAT??? Has she lost her MIND?" When I got to the end. I totally cracked up. I WAS seriously considering asking you what soap you were using, though!

UGH, you almost had me! I was reading your post thinking, 'I should wash my own dishes!' that's how convincing you were. AND THEN i got to the second part and totally agree with you 'meh'! WOW, i'm so easily swayed…:-)

I'm always doing dishes & I only have one kiddo. What is it about kids that makes the dishes pile up?!

hahaha! Sorry to have tripped you up! I'm trying to remember if my host mom had a dishwasher. I can't really remember, she had a house keeper (Oscar) and he did all the house work so I don't ever remember her doing the dishes…I'll have to ask my host sisters, you have me curious! lol

I HATE doing dishes, even with a dishwasher! My house will be sparkling clean all over & I just leave the dishes in the sink and I have to force myself to do them.

I'll try the soap! The Palmolive is killing me!

LOL – to save money in my house, it's not the dishwasher that needs to break but the washer and dryer! 5 boys + 2 = too much laundry and lots of electricity! It broke a few years ago (the dryer) and the hubs took the boys each Saturday to do laundry until he broke down and bought a new dryer. It was awesome – all the laundry done in one day (a brand new laundrymat with HUGE W&D). I was in total heaven!

Hah! I'm with you…doing dishes? Never going to happen. In my house, they would sit in the sink and serve as incentive to get the dishwasher fixed! lol

OMG! You mean there's a machine that actually does the dishes for you?!!! LOL!

Love your second list! I try to convince my Hubby that I get lots done, he just doesn't see it. Facebook, Twitter, writing, reading & commenting on blogs. It's a lot of work. IF I have any spare time after that, I'll wash a couple of dishes. By hand! I'd rather not though, because it's really tough on my hands. Like a surgeon, I really need to take special care of my hands so I can blog. 🙂

I wish we had a washing machine Doo is seriously like the wife of the house hold. He comes home and starts getting restless when he sees dishes drying on the side after I've washed them. I've already washed them he can't expect me to dry them too surely? 😉 xx
